Mark has enjoyed a long career building and sailing yachts all over the world, including two America’s Cup campaigns, and has won several yachting world championships. In the early days of Palm Beach Motor Yachts the company built and restored a range of custom sailing and motor boats in the 50 to 60 foot range. From 1999 our focus has been on building and developing the Palm Beach 32, Palm Beach 38 and Palm Beach 50 motor launches. The aim was to produce a hull that performs well not only in smooth water but also in rougher offshore conditions yet still ensuring a dry, smooth, comfortable ride. However, as well as hull design and performance we also wanted to create a boat that provided a large saloon which would give shelter from the sun and wind whilst retaining excellent all-round vision. We wanted a galley that was a part of the saloon living area, a spacious head, a comfortable front cabin with double bed and a large open rear cockpit on the same level as the saloon to enjoy at cruising or at anchor.

The hull: Unidirectional and woven rovings are hand-laid. Gel, too, is brushed on by hand; no robots or spray guns to be found here. Around 100 components are then bonded to the hull, becoming an integral part of it and systematically adding strength. It takes three to four times longer to build a boat this way, but the result is infinitely stronger. This is the foundation of Fairline’s legendary build quality and performance.
