The Moorings - Brittany - France -
www.moorings.com
For a memorable sailing vacation with a
provincial French flavor, consider Brittany and her islands along the Atlantic
coast of France. So much comes together in this unique corner of Europe: A
quaint backdrop of villages, Dramatic landfalls and coves, Sheltered beaches of
fine sand, Unique Island cultures. The southern coast reveals sheltered bays
such as the Golfe du Morbihan and the Baie de Quiberon, as well as the more
challenging seas of the Atlantic. When cruising these waters, watch for examples
of the historic Breton sailing vessel, symbol of the centuries-old sailing
tradition in this region. This wooden boat with red cotton sails has a hull
design so strongly associated with Brittany that its design is repeated in the
rooftops of Brittany’s churches. And be ready for tides that dramatically alter
the landscape that meets these legendary waters. The visitor to this region has
the good fortune to discover a place not yet so well-known, a place protective
of its natural beauty, an unspoiled home to these people and their traditions:
Auray, once an ancient port at the end of a valley, but long-ago reclaimed by
the sea, Belle-île, home to landscapes of towering cliffs, pristine white
beaches and natural grottos, The Golfe of Morbihan, sandbanks bared by the rise
and fall of tides skirt a sea of small islands, Ile de Groix, this tuna fishing
island is a green plateau surrounded by inlets and beaches, "Grands Sables", a
stunning beach on the protected East coast of Ile de Groix, Ile Houat, covered
with moorland, it shelters the fishing village around the small harbour. Hoëdic
every year this plateau is carpeted with thousands of graceful flowers. Of all
the ways to reach our Brittany base, the most popular is by rail. Your hi-speed
TGV train departs Paris for the 3-hour trip, taking you through the rolling
beauty of central France until you come to this magnificent coastal region. From
there, it's only 30 minutes by car to our base. For those who prefer air travel,
connections may be made in Paris for Nantce or L'Orient, each airport located
about 1 1/2 hours away by car. However you travel, the sights of this unique
region of France will stay with you forever.
