"Whangaroa Harbour, 32 miles north of Opua, is the crater of an extinct volcano that has opened up to the sea. Photo opportunities abound among the cliffs and waterfalls. Enjoy a trail from the sea floor to the sky on Roberton Island (Motuarohia). Snorkel the underwater trail at high tide, then climb the hill to take in the view. Cavalli Island is famous for its fantastic white, sandy beach and convenient moorings. Take advantage of the tide to sail up Kerikeri River. A special reward waits at Great Barrier Island where, after sailing through a narrow passage, you reach a great natural harbor, just like a mountain lake. Charter boat anchorages abound in this emerald-ringed Pacific gem."
