FairWind Charters offers well presented yachts for charter in the Bay of Islands. Our yachts range in size from 28 to 45 feet and are available either bareboat (sail yourself) or skippered.
The Bay of Islands is New Zealand's premier cruising area and chartering offers visitors to explore this wonderful region at their own pace. Our boats are fully outfitted for extended cruising and the permitted sailing area extends along 170 miles of the Northland coast.
The Bay of Islands is 130 square miles of sheltered water studded with more than 86 islands at sub-tropical latitudes. Safe waters and variety make the Bay of Islands a sailing destination known world wide. The islands are an easy sail from our base at Opua.

A coastal cruise exploring our fabulous beaches and islands will be the highlight of your New Zealand visit. Sail in safety and comfort to the beautiful Whangaroa Harbour, stopping at the Cavilli Islands for swimming, diving or fishing, or spend your time visiting the lovely beaches and walks in the Bay of Islands. Sail out to the famous "Hole -in-the-Rock" at Cape Brett and anchor for the night in Deep Water Cove, once a big game fishing base camp of Zane Grey, or sail for a few hours to Whangamumu Harbour, beautiful, safe and unspoiled, and once a thriving whaling station whose relics remain for visitors.

For a longer adventure (four to six days), sail overnight past the Poor Knights Islands to Great Barrier Island, where you can spend weeks experiencing fantastic scenery and exploring historic kauri dams, mussel farms, lonely pristine beaches and spectacular headlands. Catch a nice snapper for dinner or dive for crayfish. Photograph dolphins riding our bow, or if they and you are in the mood don a mask and snorkle and jump in to swim with them.

Photo opportunities abound among the cliffs and waterfalls. Enjoy a trail from the sea floor to the sky on Roberton Island (Motuarohia). Snorkel the underwater trail at high tide, then climb the hill to take in the view. Cavalli Island is famous for its fantastic white, sandy beach and convenient moorings. Take advantage of the tide to sail up Kerikeri River. A special reward waits at Great Barrier Island where, after sailing through a narrow passage, you reach a great natural harbor, just like a mountain lake. Anchorages abound in this emerald-ringed Pacific gem.
